Essay 3 Sources

Timmerman, John. “Tim O'Brien and the Art of the True War Story.” Vol.46, pp.100-114. Hofstra University. 2000. Web. October 2010. http://www.jstor.org/pss/441935

This article was found in the JSTOR database and will be very relevant to my essay. The author of this article focuses on the theme of truth and fiction in Tim O’Brien’s stories. This is the angle I will be using in correlation with O’Brien’s biography. There are multiple references to his book “The Things They Carried” as well as his other texts. This is also an angle I wanted to use in my writing. I think there is a substantial information in this article as it is well-rounded in terms of Tim O’Brien’s various writings. Noting O’Brien’s similar tone in all his writings is essential for this essay. It gives perspective to his approach and perspective in all his creations.

This other article will also be very useful for perspective in my paper. The author has a somewhat critical approach to Tim O’Brien’s pieces. There are multiple references to several of O’Brien’s stories including “Speaking of Courage” which is a piece I will put much attention on. There is much emphasis on the shifting realities in these texts and also some commentary from O’Brien himself. I think this source is credible because it is a reputable organization with up to date information. Michael Kauffman has numerous articles and from what I have found, a good reputation. The fact that I got this piece of information through the Yavapai College website also gives it some credibility.
